best female jazz trumpetplayer in europe
There are two women that play trumpet that I love so much: Saskia Laroo and Lina Allemano.

I’m not really a big fan of distaff horn players, but it is a coincidence to see this thread because I was thinking about Rebecca Coupe Franks just the other day. I actually pulled her CD—the one of hers I own—from my collection to give it a spin.
Back in the early 1990s she was a ubiquitous presence in the NYC jazz clubs. I caught her one night in Lou Donaldson’s band at Fat Tuesday’s and another time she was at a New School benefit concert I attended. Then she dropped from site. Someone once wrote on another chat board she moved home to California, but she had faded into obscurity that is for sure.
On that CD I own I was surprised at the side people she used, including the formidable Kenny Barron.
Carol Dawn Reinhardt and Clora Bryant are my favorites.
Rebecca Coupe Franks lives upstate New York and is quite active recording and teaching.
love stacy rowles and rebecca coupe franks
There is Bria Skonberg with the Might Aphrodite traditional jazz band and other bands http://www.briaskonberg.com/ Might.y Aphrodite is a female sextet: trumpet, trombone, clarinet, piano, bass and drums http://www.mightyjazz.com/theband.html I enj.oyed their music at the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Festival this year. The band was entertaining; Bria’s solos intelligent. I would classify her as a good professional player. After hearing more I might move her up to very good. You can hear samples of her playing at the cdbaby web cd store: http://cdbaby.com/cd/mightyaphrodite http:,//cdbaby.com/cd/mightyaphrodite2, http://cdbaby.com/cd/mightyaphrodite3.
Bria’s schedule is on her website. If Mighty Aphrodite comes near you, I suggest you see them for a fun experience. If some other band of Bria is in comes near me, I will go to see them, in part just to check out what is happening with women playing instruments women have not traditionally played.
In my opinion those of us interested in seeing racial and gender barriers broken down should go a little bit out of our way to support females playing instruments not usually played by women. Am interested in comments on women playing horns, reeds, bass, drums, etc., well.
Liesl Whitaker is a fantastic lead trumpet player with the Army Blues!
I really like Bibi Black. She has a great recording of the Pukhmatova Concerto

I remember seeing Saskia as a sidewoman with the late, great Teddy Edwards at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC when the Iridium was across the street from Lincoln Center and a couple of blocks north of where J@LC calls itself home.
I don’t remember much about Saskia’s playing—I was there to see Teddy—but she is real easy on the eyes and I remember she had a real short skirt on the night I attended the gig.
Valaida Snow.
She was a GREAT entertainer, jazz singer & jazz trumpet player from the 1920’s/30’s.

I insist to people that love jazz that pay attention to Lina Allemano. She is very soft, firm and has a very beautiful expression in each note she plays. She is a great musician.
Tine Thing Helseth is very good. You can see on You Tube, and she has her own website as well. http://www.tinethinghelseth.com
Kiku Collins is great! She played for Beyonce! :)
